Styloko

So I started a kind of pre-internship Internship this week at Styloko. I’m finishing today, and then starting officially in April for 6 weeks. I’ve been working for the website, researching for blog posts etc. Since its Fashion Week season there’s quite a lot of content so it’s good fun, and I’m also learning a lot about different designers I hadn’t heard of, and about trend forecasting which is something I’ve never done before. Like Tamara Fogle (tv presenter Ben Fogles sister). She started making leather handbags on Portabello Road for 50odd quid, and is now selling them for like 600quid, very successful lady and her handbags are lush. Also, looking back at all the spring summer 2011 collections I come across Jaeger, who I always thought of as a middle-aged brand but their stuff is amezin! …

Styloko

Today I had two interviews – one for Bitching and Junkfood, and another for Styloko. I was equally as excited for them, but unfortunately I just don’t thinking B&J is for me. The interview was in Hackney at 8 30 am, meaning I was up and in the shower at 5am, and travelling for a good TWO and a half hours!! And I was still ten minutes late! The journey was fairly long and horrific: train to London, several tube changes (because there was something going on at Bank and I think Monument), a bus AND a taxi! I would love to work there, the company and the owners Cath and Marion, but doing that 5 times a week, paying 35pounds for travel, and not getting paid – I’m just not sure it’s worth it. So I was feeling fairly deflated for the Styloko interview in central London, however it all worked out fantastically! Khaled, the man who interviewed me was absoloutly lovely and said afterwards that he would definately like me to start on the 11th April, for six weeks, full time! I also mentioned it was my mid term break and that I’m free all next week so I’d really like to come in sometime and get acquainted and whatnot. So I’m now on my way home, having treated myself to a pinafore dress from Topshop and a headscarf and some white lacy laces from American Apparal. All in all I’m 100% on the productive flex today, and when I get home I’m baking a chocolate fudge cake for Jo’s birthday and going to BED.

Work Exp

Hey diddly! I’ve got an internship at Leni’s Model Management for February, very excited! I actually applied last year sometime and didn’t hear anything back, but they recently got in touch and offered it to me, so I start in two weeks. I also have an interview at Bitching and Junkfood on Thursday, but I don’t want to jinx it so I won’t get too excited. This one is for a buying internship, which I’ve never done but I like the sound of it. I want to be busy busy busy working until May, getting as much experience as I can. Then I really need to think about an actual paying job, save as much money as I possibly can to live on during third year. And I’m going to start swimming.

Fashion Babylon at Kensington Roof Gardens

OK, so a little catch up. A couple weeks ago, I went to Britain’s Next Top Model Live at the ExCel (pictures to come). The show was wicked, even though I didn’t watch this series (woops). The best, or most productive, part of my night however was meeting the Fashion Babylon people. They were there scouting models, and promoting their model portfolio building programmes. The company director, and photographer is Michael Bailey. So I asked about work exp/internships, and it turns out they had a big fashion show in the pipeline, and they really needed help the following week.

So the next week was pretty full on, the show still needed a lot of organizing. I’ll explain a little…Fashion Bab’s an online fashion magazine/model agency/photographic studio/fashion events company. So the show was at Kensington Roof Gardens, and featured 8 graduate designers, 4 professional models and 4 new models (all scouted by Fashion Bab). Thousands of girls were found at BNTML, and had to be narrowed down to 4, so FB ran this competition, and filmed it for the website. Clare Brown from Oxygen presented the video and the show, and the four professional models were Camilla, Stacey, Anna and Roksana also from Oxygen.

My involvement in the show was to narrow down the models (very difficult) and to run backstage of the show. It was my first catwalk show and I was cacking myself, but so glad Michael gave me the opportunity cos it all went smoothly, now I really want another one! Anyway here are a few pics from the show, and when the videos been done I’ll upload that too. Here’s a link to the website pow pow pow
